Do Smart Door Locks Provide Security?

We first need to understand what a smart door lock is to find an answer to this question. Smart door locks are keyless gadgets that you can access through your smartphone and are connected to your home Wi-Fi. Some have a keypad so you can also enter a code to unlock it. Additionally, you may use your voice to access the majority of smart locks when using voice assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant.

So, it can be said that they allow keyless entry into your home. But how is that safe? What if someone hacks your smart door lock? Unfortunately, like any other internet-connected gadget, smart locks are susceptible to hacking. But luckily, some sound security procedures will reduce the risk. For example, if the smart lock has a default password, you should constantly update it to something different.

Avoid using the same password for many accounts and combine upper- and lowercase letters, digits, and special characters. Make sure it doesn’t include any personally identifiable information. Finally, ensure that the smart lock firmware is up-to-date and that your home Wi-Fi has a strong and secure password. So now, let’s check where Signstek Keyless Entry Door Lock stands regarding security!

Features of Signstek Keyless Entry Door Lock

Since the first duty of a smart door lock is to secure you and your home, it’s crucial to know how this product will do that is crucial. After the installation is done, you can easily access the adjustments through your smartphone. Thanks to this application, you will be alerted if there is any unexpected activity on your smart lock.

But this is not the only security Signstek Keyless Entry Door Lock provides. Thanks to the anti-peep password feature, you will be protected against password theft because this smart lock will prevent outsiders from reading the worn-out keypad digits or keeping an eye on you as you type the password. In addition, this feature enables users to enter random numbers.

Of course, they can still log in if the one valid password is hidden in the lengthier string of numbers. In addition, there is also a mute function that allows you to enter your password without any beeps. Though this may sound a bit unnecessary, it is a plus. Because thanks to this feature, others cannot hear the length of your keypad inputs and guess your passwords.

Ease of Installation

The installation process is another critical consideration when shopping for a smart door lock. First, note that this lock requires you to change your existing locks. However, you don’t have to worry. Because even if you are not a professional, you may complete the assembly very quickly just by following the user manual and the included hexagon screwdriver.

Of course, even though this smart lock can be used with most types of doors, you should ensure that your door’s thickness is between 1.38 to 1.97 inches. That said, the software part of the installation, meaning the programming part, may not be this easy. Because according to many reviewers, the software is not that easy to use, and programming can be confusing.

And maybe the worst part is that there are no indicator lights or beeps to let the user know whether the programming was accepted. Yes, this could be not very pleasant, but you can still reset your device to factory mode thanks to the reset button. And if you fail to work this the right way, the customer service of Signstek claims to be ready to help whenever.

Ease of Use

The ease of use feature may not look very important for some because how hard can it be to use a smart lock, right? Well, it can be pretty hard, especially if you are in a hurry to get into your house. So, for example, let’s talk about the touch screen. This Signstek product features a blue-backlit keypad, thus making it easy to see.

However, according to some reviewers, Signstek Keyless Entry Door Lock doesn’t do very well regarding screen sensitivity. Although usually, this is not a big problem, as we mentioned above, it might be annoying if you are in a hurry. But apart from that, considering that it has a password-free mode and a hidden emergency keyhole, this is a reasonably easy-to-use product.

In terms of design, it could be said that this product does an excellent job. One of the most important reasons for this is its waterproof and dustproof protection. Also, thanks to its metal and zinc alloy construct, it can endure for long years and keep functioning even when it’s raining. And the back-lighted touch screen is straightforward to see, thus making it convenient for its users.

That said, in my opinion, the door handle could be designed in a better, more excellent way. However, considering that this lock is there to provide an extra layer of security, I think this point is not that important. Besides, black and white color options look great, and you can choose the one that will go with your door.

Now that we have covered the most crucial parts, you might question whether you need a smart door lock or not. Well, in my opinion, if you are asking this, you probably never lost or forgot your keys somewhere.

But trust me, these things can happen to anyone, so better safe than sorry. That said, you can also use this smart lock as an indoor lock on your bedroom door or any other room you want.

And this makes Signstek Keyless Entry Door Lock especially perfect for the ones who stay in a college home with people they don’t know that well. Because overall, this product’s performance seems solid. Though, the only obvious downside is programming. But if you trust your skills in that domain and need a smart door lock, Signstek is among the best options.

Dan – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Review: Straight forward and very easy installation and programming. Quality, easy to place screws (hear that Z*llow). Programming too was easy (still there Z) the only thing here is that you can stick with the default codes whereas I think a they should be forced to be changed on installation. Took me 10 minutes start to finish as compared to a couple hours and a lot of swearing with the Z* model’s tiny screws and flimsy mounting plate. This model allows exiting a room without unlocking from the inside which is the main reason the other is going back after all that work.

Review: I wish it was easier to change it from always lock when it closes to dont lock unless you lock it. You have to remember a code to do that but other than that it is great.

Manuel Martinez – ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Review: Good item but if you have large fingers don’t buy. My fingers always hit the key below as well causing the lock to not unlock. My wife has thin fingers and has no issues.

Review: I’m very happy with this door handle’s sturdy feel and contemporary good looks.

Review: Great lock . works well. installation was very easy. Key lock dosent make sence handle covers the key lock and you need the tool to take it off. otherwise great lock . gonna buy another one today

Danny – ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Review: Locks every time you go through the door which I do believe is changeable. It is quite when you type in the numbers and if you get off by one number it usually still lets you in lol but overall it’s worth it.

Review: Now I’m no genius and after reading the reviews I expected this to be difficult/ confusing to install, it really wasn’t. Tbh my biggest issue was user error as I stabbed my finger with a screw while installing the thingy into the doorframe. Even with a big, awkward bandage on my hand I finished the installation pretty easily. Only complaint with the product itself is that you can’t get to the “emergency keyhole” without a secondary tool. Which seems a bit dumb to me. Overall a good buy though, worth the money and I’d buy again if we needed a second one.

Ginger Marshall – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Review: It was easy enough to install and set up a code. We have it on our side garage door, so it is in the weather, but not direct sunlight. It has worked in rain and snow. We have not had any problems with it. Will most likely purchase another for the front door.
